The widow of Amirul Hafiz Omar, 33, who was killed after being struck by a drunk driver on Jalan Raya Barat, expressed her gratitude after learning that she qualifies for a survivor’s pension from the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO).

Nor Nadia Abdul Majid, 32, a mother of three, now receives monthly assistance of RM2,888.17. Her children are also eligible for financial support for education until they reach the age of 21 or complete their first degree.

Nadia shared that the assistance has helped ease her family’s financial burden, especially as she raises three young children. She described the visit by PERKESO officers, who personally informed her of her eligibility, as a moment of great relief.

“I’m very grateful to know that I qualify for PERKESO assistance. At least it lightens the burden, especially when it comes to raising my young children.”

She added that the monthly financial aid has become a stable source of income for her family. Motivated by this support, she is now considering contributing to PERKESO herself to ensure her children’s future protection.

“Even though my children are receiving benefits from their late father’s contributions, I want to contribute as well so that if anything happens to me, they will still be protected,” she explained.

Nadia received the pension and the Funeral Management Benefit (FMB) during a visit by PERKESO Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohamed Azman Aziz Mohammed, who also shared the matter in a Facebook post.

In addition, PERKESO provided a one‑time Funeral Management Benefit of RM3,000 to the family, according to a Sinar Harian report.

He also urged employers to take responsibility by ensuring that all employees are registered with and contribute to PERKESO, stressing that many only realise its importance after a tragedy occurs.

“Misfortune can strike at any time. In this case, the deceased had simply gone out to buy school supplies for his child, never expecting it would end in a fatal accident,” he said.
