A touching story has recently come to light involving an elderly homeless man who visited a renowned nasi kandar eatery in Penang.
According to a post by the admin of Nasi Kandar Sulaiman, the man had been seen sleeping at a local bus station before entering the shop. He initially ordered only rice and an egg, politely declining any additional dishes.

The admin further shared that the elderly man explained he possessed only RM2, even showing his worn and torn RM1 notes. Out of compassion, the eatery staff insisted he take any dishes he liked, informing him that the meal would be on the house.
The post reads:
“I asked him if he wanted any other dishes, and he said he only had RM2, showing me his crumpled RM1 notes. I told him it was fine to take whatever he liked, as someone was treating him.
“He asked happily if it was true and requested just one piece of fish, mentioning that he hadn’t eaten fish in a long time. He was overjoyed.”

After receiving his meal, the man chose not to eat inside the shop. He explained that his clothes were unkempt, and he was conscious of his personal hygiene. Instead, he packed his food to go and returned to a nearby bus station, where he sat on the floor to eat.
The admin reflected on the encounter, stating:
“People like him are not asking for large sums of money or valuables; they just want a meal. A single piece of fish made him so happy. This serves as a reminder to us all to be grateful for our lives.
“He doesn’t even have a proper table to eat at, while we enjoy our meals in comfort every day. We should be thankful that we are not in such a difficult situation.”
