Anybody who records or take pictures of PDRM officers while they enforce the MCO with the intention of giving a negative impression of authorities on social media will face severe consequences.

“I want to stress that the presence of PDRM officers who are stationed all across the country is not to restrict movement for fun or to inconvenience people,” said Chief of Police, Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bahor.

“On the contrary, PDRM officers are purely on a mission with the objective of breaking the Covid-19 infection chain for the safety of everyone,” he added in a statement reported by Berita Harian.

These officers deliberately place themselves in a position that makes them vulnerable towards contracting the virus since they’re always outside patrolling on the roads to protect the rakyat.

“So individuals who have any intentions to do so (record or take pictures to provoke the image of police officers) are given a stern warning. Remember that many are on the lookout so you will get caught.”

“If citizens are out to give or buy things, there is no issue but if they deliberately leave their houses to record authorities, it’s a violation of the law as officers carrying out their duties is not for entertainment purposes.”

He went on to add that PDRM officers themselves prioritise the health and safety of their members at all times when on duty by keeping to the safe rule of social distancing. The Chief of Police added that he even took the opportunity of going to the patrol sites himself to ensure that all officers were equipped with masks, gloves and sanitisers.

“Every time they stop a vehicle, they practice safe social distancing and only touch parts of the car while following the standard procedure. They only ask drivers where they’re planning on going to and wash their hands immediately after.”

These officers sacrifice so much just to ensure our health and safety. Don’t be inconsiderate towards them.Ā
