On November 5, 2 suspects attempted to ram into a police vehicle that was trying to stop them at the Tapah Rest and Relax (R&R) area, heading northbound.

Harian Metro reported that the investigation found that 10 officers from the Kajang District Police Headquarters attempted to detain a man and woman on suspicion of involvement in a burglary case in the Kajang area.

They were chasing the suspects from Kajang

Tapah District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Naim Asnawi, said they received information from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Kajang District Police Headquarters (IPD), who reported they were chasing a car all the way from Kajang, Selangor, up to the rest stop.

The car, with 2 local suspects inside, tried to ram the police car when police attempted to stop them near a fast food restaurant.

At that point, the police had to fire 4 shots at the suspects’ car in self-defense.

Suspects managed to flee into a nearby forest

Naim said the suspects got away by driving against traffic on the southbound side of the North-South Expressway. They eventually stopped at Kilometer 332.5, ditched the car, and ran into a nearby forest.

“A forensic team and the K9 Unit from the Perak Police were sent to help with the investigation, and the Tapah District Police have launched ‘Ops Tutup’ to hunt down the suspects,” he added.

Upon checking the car the suspects were using, showed it was registered under a local woman, while the male suspect has a record of 15 previous offences.

The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
