PAS Pahang recently vowed to close down all gambling premises, including the casino in Genting Highland if they secured Pahang in GE16.

The chairman of DAP Pahang, Lee Chin Chen had something to say about it.

“Such actions could affect the economy, including the source of income for Muslims working in the tourist destination area.”

In a statement, Lee said Genting Highlands has been operating since 1971, with the clear condition that the casino only allows non-Muslims to enter, and security staff at the entrance will ensure visitors meet the requirements.

He added that Genting Highlands is one of the famous international tourist destinations in Malaysia, which generates huge tourism income.

“As of March this year, a total of 1,724,924 domestic and international tourists have visited Genting Highlands, which is an increase of 15.17% compared to the first quarter of last year.”

Lee also said that a majority of employers under Genting Highlands are Muslims, who will be affected if PAS decides to shut down Genting casino.

“DAP, do you want Malaysians to be affected by social issues?”

In a statement last night (September 17), the Deputy President of PAS, Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said PAS’ suggestion to shut down all gambling premises should be supported and said Lee’s statement was “disgusting.”

“It’s our social responsibility to make sure the people can avoid financial issues like debt due to gambling.”

Tuan Ibrahim also highlighted that no religions allow gambling because it is an “immoral activity.”

The deputy president of PAS also said that a good leader does not only worry about people having enough food but also if the income used to buy the food is “Halal.”

“A smoker father wouldn’t like it if his son smokes. If smoking affects health, then gambling will ruin the econonomy, family and society,” Tuan Ibrahim said.

Do you think PAS will get the federal government to agree on the closure of Genting casino if the party wins Pahang in GE16?
