20 days following its release, the Malaysian movie Blood Brothers: Bara Naga has secured a whopping RM62 million at the box office. While the movie continues to celebrate its massive success, a local actor is pleading for the cinemas to add more slots for his movie.

Actor Amerul Affendi is baffled that his movie – 6 Jilake (6 Scoundrels) – is experiencing limited timeslots at the cinema, causing potential audiences to miss the movie that he is leading. 6 Jilake was released in cinemas on April 24, two weeks after Blood Brothers made its way into the theatres.

Unfortunately, a week after 6 Jilake was released, only selected cinemas are screening the movie with a VERY limited timeslot. In his Instagram post, @amerul_affendi, Amerul expressed his dissatisfaction about the time slots for his movie that are being halved, especially during the school holiday season when families are more likely to visit the cinemas.

“This is how they’re running their business. Only one week after its release, only 8 cinemas in the entire country are screening the movie. The time slots are very limited too, even on weekends.”

“When the movie is not doing well, remove it from the schedule on the second week itself without sympathy,” Amerul said.

“The same team that markets Blood Brothers”

In his other Instagram post, Amerul acknowledged the lack of marketing for the historical comedy and said that the same entity that markets Blood Brothers barely promotes 6 Jilake on its socials.

Amerul also revealed that the meet & greet in Johor, which was scheduled for this week, had been cancelled following the withdrawal of the movie from cinemas in the state.

As for Amerul himself, he has been actively promoting the movie on his socials and urged Malaysian fans to catch the movie in the cinemas.

“Bring your kids. This film is suitable for all ages, it’s a comedy. It speaks of social critics, history, and cultures through history in a comedic way.”

TGV Cinemas, on the other hand, has completely withdrawn the movie from its roster.

6 Jilake stars Amerul Affendi as the lead actor, with Bell Ngasri, Saiful Apek, Kazar Saisi, and more gracing the big screen. It takes place in the 18th century when the Dutch East India Company aimed to control all tin mines in Perak to outcompete other foreign powers.

They hired a group of thugs called 6 Jilake to oversee the mining areas, including Kampong Ketayap. However, the village remained protected by a warrior named Kuping and resisted their control, as per the description on GSC Cinemas.
