The Ministry of Education (MOE) is ready to bring forth a proposal for the education policy related to Standard 6 and Form 3 examinations to be reviewed and revamped, following the problem of students not being good at reading, writing and arithmetic (3M).

According to a report by Buletin TV3, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek shared this development after Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had recently made a suggestion as 10,177 students had not sat for their SPM examinations last year due to the aforementioned 3M issues.

“As for his (Ahmad Zahid’s) wishes, I think maybe we can bring it to the ministerial level to be decided and discussed,” she said.

Regarding the issue of the absence of exams for Standard 6 and Form 3 students being an indicator of the problems of students not being proficient in 3M, she added that her ministry is committed to this matter through the announcement of curriculum interventions that have yielded results.

“We managed to identify a total of 120,000 Standard 1 students who have not mastered 3M. In that aspect, we have already dealt with this dropout issue and we will continue with some significant programs that will be announced soon,” she added.

Though, Malaysians on the other hand, prefer for UPSR and PMR to be reinstated.

“The move to absolish (the exams) was the stupidest. These kids are getting lazy to study because there are no exams. Those in Form 3 are already grown but they still don’t know anything. Teachers are getting tired of dealing with all kinds of attitudes.”

Upsr 2

“Please bring back all the examinations because students these days do not have a direction. Everyone is taking their education lightly and they do not have a competitve attitude.”

Upsr 4

“Please hold the Standard 6 examinations. Form 1 students are stuttering while reading and some can’t read at all. Some can even spell their names wrongly.”

Upsr 3

“Please reinstate UPSR and PMR examinations. Kids these days are drifting because they’re having too long of a honeymoon.”

What do you think? Should the authorities bring back the UPSR and PMR exams?

Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
