BERNAMA took to their X page to call out Malaysians for our uncivilised behaviour of leaving rubbish everywhere we go, despite having gained independence for decades.

They wrote, “Seremban, have we really gained independence? Boxes along with plastic food and drink containers were among the piles of rubbish scattered around making it truly an ugly sight due to the negative attitudes of individuals present at the 67th National Day Celebration yesterday at Jalan Yam Tuan.”

“This unethical act is a reflection of the level of awareness by those in our society towards environmental cleanliness, which is still not fully ‘Merdeka’. Various cleanliness campaigns have been carried out by various government and private entities but they are taken lightly due to the fading sense of responsibility and civic awareness, even though they have been implemented since schooling days.”

Considering the fact that Malaysians just don’t listen when it comes to littering, BERNAMA called for the authorities to impose stricter laws.

“If not curbed from now on, this ‘polluting’ action will be inherited by future generations and it will make it difficult for the government to preserve the environment. The government and local authorities should take strict and severe action against the group,” they added.

What do you think will make Malaysians finally stop littering? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
