Regardless of where you go for a trip, having a place to stay is 1 of the main priorities. It’s nerve-wracking to have your accommodation messed up when you’re already at your destination.

Just recently, former Miss Astro Chinese Malaysia and YouTuber, Anjoe Koh shared her troubling experience of (almost) being denied entry to the hotel that she had reserved in advance. On her Instagram stories, Anjoe revealed that not all hotels in China accept foreign tourists, despite what it may say during the booking process.

“Even if the management says they accept foreign tourists on its website, it may not entirely be true. They can always change their mind. If you must, change your travel destination.”

Anjoe said that 70 to 80% of the hotels in China don’t entertain foreign tourists and it’s best to have all the details checked prior to making a reservation, including making phone calls and getting e-mail confirmation. Anjoe, who has a friend in China helped with her booking but there was a slight trouble when she reached the hotel in China.

“The management may say that they have never spoken to you about the reservation, and that was what happened to me.”

In another IG story, Anjoe revealed that some of her followers responded and said they had experienced the same in China.

“Yes, this happened to me 5 years ago. I never understand why they don’t accept anyone with a different passport,” said a user.

Another user said that she spent 2 hours at midnight looking for another place to stay after being denied entry to her initial hotel.

Anjoe then reminded everyone to always plan their trip ahead carefully to avoid unwanted consequences like this. She also said that after spending some time arguing with the hotel staff, Anjoe managed to secure her room without having the need to find someplace else.

To those who have travelled to China in the past, have you experienced the same thing?
