A Malaysian woman was fined RM40,000 by the Sessions Court recently for saying that “Malays are lazy” in one of her previous TikTok posts.

The court, however, acquitted his son, Ezuan Hafsham Mohd Hisyam, 23, with a good behaviour bond of RM10,000 without collateral for one year, along with one Malaysian guarantor, for the offence of initiating the video post on social media.

The woman, Mariyah Yaakob, known as Mak Cik Kemboja on the Internet said she had apologised for the matter once in the past, but outside the court, she apologised again to Malaysians for her remark, reported Harian Metro.

Judge Azaraorni Abd Rahman passed the sentence after Mariyah, 48, and Ezuan Hafsham both changed their pleas to guilty for the charges they faced during the trial.

In his judgment, he took into account the maximum facts of the case, the appeals, and the prosecution’s arguments, and ordered that Mariyah be jailed for six months if she failed to pay the fine, but the accused has settled it.

Mariyah’s lawyer, Kamal Hisham explained that Mariyah shares a lot of content focusing on motivation to share with the people.

“In producing the motivational video, it exceeded the legal boundaries, leading to the case being brought to court.”

Mariyah also assured that she is well aware of her mistake.
