Smoking is a bad habit that most people would pick up as they enter into young adulthood. Just recently a Malaysian wife has shared her thoughts on her husband who is a chain smoker.

In her anonymous post on Twitter, she wrote, “My husband is an avid chain smoker and back then before we got married, I threatened him saying that I wouldn’t marry him if he doesn’t stop smoking. It worked for a while but few months after we got married, he started smoking again.”

She then continued in her post saying that the reason her husband started smoking is because he was “stressed with work”. She also expressed that her husband was being inconsiderate because when she’s stressed out, she doesn’t resort to bad habits.

“When I found out I was pregnant, I asked him to stop smoking for the sake of our health, but he refused because to him it’s difficult,” she said.

“Now he even wants to smoke when he’s in the car. Even if you have the windows opened, it will still smell am I right?”, she added.

She then ended the post by mentioning that she feels bad for her baby as the secondhand smoke could affect it. She also stated that she’s starting to feel stressed about this issue and she’s starting to hate her husband.

Netizens sided with her

Many netizens felt sorry for her and understood the predicament that she was in.

“Reminder: Don’t marry a smoker.”

“For your information, your husband NEVER stopped smoking actually. He just managed to hide it from you. But once you’re married, he can no longer hide it forever. So, in the end, he has to show his true colours,” commented a netizen.

Another commented, “Moral is, don’t marry someone who is a smoker. You mentioned that he stopped smoking before you got married, but in reality, he was actually doing behind your back. After marriage, he could pretend for a bit but after a while he just couldn’t do pretend any longer. All the best.”

A relationship is hard to sustain, and it would be great if both parties could be more respectful of each other’s boundaries.
