In Malaysia, no matter how brilliant and talented you are, it is certainly no guarantee that you’d become successful due to the lack of opportunities, which have led many to desire leaving the country and emigrate elsewhere permanently.

Following the recent release of the placements for prospective students, a Malaysian  shared how despite his excellent academic results, he wasn’t offered an admission to a local university.

In his tweet, Firdaus wrote, “My result. UPU vs UCAS. I don’t get it. What’s wrong with UPU. Not even one?

In several screenshots, Firdaus shared the excellent results he obtained where he ended up with a CGPA of 3.95.

He then shared how his application for local universities under the University Central Unit (UPU) was unsuccessful and that he wasn’t offered any placements to a local university.

On the other hand, his application to UK universities via the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) proved fruitful as he was offered a placement to 3 courses from 2 universities.

Meanwhile, some users shared how exactly the same has happened to them or someone they know which means that it isn’t something unheard of.

I got 3.92 for my STPM but I didn’t get any offers from UPU. Wondering what’s wrong,” said a user.

Another user commented, “Your situation is the same as my sibling. Last year my sister got an offer from King’s College London & Manchester University. But when she applied under UPU, she didn’t get anything.”
