As Covid-19 restrictions ease up, we can finally look to attending our favourite public events and seeing our favourite artists yet again. Just last month, Malaysians rushed to get tickets to Justin Bieber’s concert in October.

Recently, Malaysian singer-songwriter Aina Abdul, released tickets for her concert which will be happening at Istana Budaya on the 25th and 26th of June 2022.

Prices start from RM113.36 and go all the way up to RM1246.96.

However, it seems that her ticket prices were seen as unaffordable for many Malaysians as the cheapest tickets which were RM113.36 had already been fully sold out whilst the next cheapest tickets costed RM518.96.

Malaysians criticised her for the ticket prices

Malaysians took to Twitter to condemn the singer-songwriter for her ticket pricing.

“Aina’s concert at Istana Budaya is damn expensive. The gap from the cheapest to the next is more than 50%,” commented one user.

Aina Abdul, who are you again? Yuna live at Istana Budaya was way more affordable,” said another user.

Meanwhile a netizen highlighted how by pricing her tickets as such, she seemed to position herself out of reach for ordinary Malaysians. “Can her fans even afford to buy it?”

Some fans defended and justified the prices

On the other hand, there were plenty fans who justified and defended her ticket pricing. They pointed out that she’s a solo artist who is not tied to a company and has no sponsorships, hence why the tickets are reasonably priced.

“Talking about the venue itself, Istana Budaya is much more expensive than the Axiata Arena. That doesn’t include technical equipment support, crew engineer, event/stage crew and more.”

“For me the tickets are expensive because of the venue and not the artist,” said a user.

Another said that it is worth it as Aina Abdul does everything by herself. “She moves with her crew. All of her songs are made by herself. She’s a singer, composer and songwriter. She made a name for herself.”

“She is a solo artist without a company… She is super talented,” said another netizen.
