Malaysia was deeply saddened by the recent death of a young man, 20-year-old Lim Chi Ling, who was waiting for donations for an urgent liver transplant. Unfortunately, he couldn’t hold on any longer and passed away yesterday.

While most of us were sympathising with his family and friends, a netizen emerged and made some nasty comments when people asked for donations to fund his surgery, and it enraged everyone who saw it. A furious netizen wanted her to make a public apology and he took screenshots of her comments, which went viral. Here is the comment in question;

“Sorry, I won’t donate money to him. He has the funds to study in Australia, which means that he comes from a well-to-do family but he never purchased any medical insurance before. He deserves it!”

“How can someone not have medical insurance in this day and age?”

After she posted this comment, many people came forward to condemn her words and even explained the whole situation to her.

“Even if you don’t want to donate money you don’t have to say anything. No one will blame you for not donating money but please don’t rub salt into someone else’s wounds. Please read properly about his story before jumping to conclusions.”

“He has been working part time since he was in secondary school to earn money and even when he was in Australia, he worked there to help pay for his school fees.”

However, the lady who posted those hurtful comments didn’t stop there and felt that what she said was right.

“I don’t need to know more about him, I have already confirmed that he doesn’t have medical insurance. I believe that his parents gave him money when he first went over to Australia to study, so they should be able to afford medical insurance. I also have schoolmates who worked part time when they were studying, this is a norm.”

She added in a few other comments saying, “I won’t donate or share this post to anyone, because I don’t think he deserves anyone’s help!”

“I post this in the comments section is because I want everyone who reads this to know the importance of buying your own medical card and life insurance!” Of course, insurance is important, but do you really need to be so insensitive?

In fact, she stressed the importance of buying medical insurance in various comments which caused netizens to wonder what her issue was with the poor young man. While many of them were blasting her for her insensitive comments, some of them speculated that she was an insurance agent, which was why she kept talking about health insurance.

Netizens immediately embarked on a witch hunt for her details and they managed to discover that she was indeed an insurance agent based on her Facebook profile.

They even found her address, phone number and full name. It’s shocking how some netizens can be total cyber detectives!

After that, someone even took the initiative to contact the insurance agency she was supposedly affiliated with to report her insensitive comments on the sad death of Lim Chi Ling. To the surprise of the netizen, the agency replied shortly after to clarify that she was no longer working for them and was terminated a few years back.

This just goes to show that if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all!
