The price of food is not only determined by the ingredients and the manpower involved, but the location as well. If you’re visiting premium outlets, then the high side of the price shouldn’t be a surprise.

Just today (24 May), the Facebook page We Are Malaysians shared an image of a portion of food as well as a receipt from a restaurant in Penang Airport in Bayan Lepas. The image shows a plate of rice with some gravy, a fried chicken and half of a salted egg.

According to the receipt, the customer also ordered a glass of warm lemon drink which was RM3.50.

The total bill for the meal was RM32.65.

“International Airport, so international price?” the caption said.

The image has garnered attention from fellow Malaysians and most of them have a lot to say about the pricing.

“I’m not paying for that!”

Some netizens said that given the price, they wouldn’t have paid and would’ve asked the worker to recalculate the price.

“Well, it’s an airport, right?”

Other netizens also said that given the location, which is an international airport, the price shouldn’t have come as a surprise as the rentals and salaries of the workers differ from other places.

In the meantime, some netizens expressed their thoughts on how the customer should’ve satisfied his hunger prior to reaching the airport if the price is too pricy for him.

To pay more than RM30 for a plate of rice with chicken and salted egg, do you think the location and the rental justify the price? Or do you think it is too expensive for a meal?
