Times are tough but it’s never a valid reason for anyone to steal.

Just recently, a local IG famous influencer was sentenced to jail for 1 day after she pleaded guilty to stealing from a supermarket in Jalan Ampang on November 1. Toiletries, air fresheners, hangers, and broccoli were stolen from the scene, and they were worth RM108.18.

The Magistrate Court sentenced the influencer to a 1-day prison sentence and issued her with a fine of RM400, reported Berita Harian.

Earlier during the proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Sheryn Yong Shi Yee asked for appropriate punishment as a lesson to the accused.

However, the lawyer Muhammad Rhastdan Abdul Wahab, who represented the accused, asked for a prison sentence and a minimum fine on the grounds that his client did not have a regular income, as well as supporting her 65-year-old mother who is a high blood pressure patient.
“This is the accused’s 1st offense and the items taken are only basic necessities. The client has repented and begs to be given a second chance,” Rhastdan said.

According to the facts of the case, on the day of the incident, the accused had taken some items and put them in the bag she was carrying. and proceeded to exit the premise without making payment. Her actions were discovered by the guard and she failed to show her receipts of purchase.

The influencer has since completed her prison sentence and we do hope that history will not repeat again.
