Popular food blogger and YouTuber Mark Wiens is back in Malaysia and over the past 2 weeks or so, he has been posting videos highlighting scrumptious local food in Penang.

The most recent video as of the time of writing is his ‘seafood tour’ of the state, showcasing local eateries offering fresh seafood on their menu, most notably Pak Tam Mee Udang‘s shrimp noodles which became the video’s title.

The eatery received a negative review from someone who watched Wiens’ video

However, despite Wiens’ glowing review of Pak Tam Mee Udang in the video, the eatery by the beach in Penang island’s south inexplicably received a bad review from someone who watched the video.

Worse, the individual didn’t even go to the restaurant to try out the food before giving the bad review, instead review bombed the eatery just because she didn’t like how the chef was allegedly not friendly with Wiens.

A screenshot of the 1-star review on Google Maps was shared by the eatery on its official Facebook page, in which the individual wrote,

“Mark Wiens came to your eatery yesterday but the chef pulled a tight, sour face… He wanted to promote your shop ???”

Aaa

Pak Tam Mee Udang responded to the review bomb and clarified what happened behind the scene

In the post, the popular shrimp noodles place said that the chef who the individual referred to was 1 of the best employees at the eatery and that her job was to cook, not public relations-related matters.

The eatery added that behind the scenes of the video, they all had a fun time, especially when Wiens entered their small kitchen.

Furthermore, their chef also tried really hard to speak in English with Wiens even though it’s not a language she uses every day.

Pak Tam Mee Udang hence urged the individual to not ‘punish’ the eatery with a review bomb or make insulting remarks about their chef.

What’s important though is that even Wiens is a big fan of their shrimp noodles and the eatery hoped that the exposure by the big YouTuber could help other small eateries in Penang.
