Online dating can be a happy ending kind of fairy tale that you can tell your kids if you meet your partner there. Unfortunately, it can also be a nightmare fuel if you fall for someone dishonest about his/her identity.

A Malaysian girl recently encountered a catfish, or a fake profile on one of the dating applications, Coffee Meets Bagel. In her Xiao Hong Shu post @尘, the girl shared the screenshot of the fake profile, where the man claims to be a 33-year-old researcher from KL.

The “highlight” of his profile, however, is perhaps the pictures he chose to scam some unlucky ladies.

It is the image of popular Hong Kong actor, Louis Koo, who has quite a large fanbase in Malaysia not just for his movies, but also for his charisma and good-looking face, despite turning 54 this year.

Here are a couple of pictures of the real Louis Koo for your reference. Some might just believe that he’s only 33.

“Will people fall for this?” the girl stated in her caption.

Those who are familiar with the actor will likely swipe left in an instant, knowing the profile is merely a catfish. Those who are not aware of Louis’s existence, however, might waste some time “getting to know” Louis or fall victim to whatever ill intentions the person on the other side might have.

Next level kind of romance scam

Shockingly, some netizens commented and said the girl was not the only one who had encountered the profile. Others also commented about online romance scams in their hilarious ways.

“I’ve seen this profile. He said he has an above-average look and would reveal his look after the match.”

“Any CMB longtime users here? Have you girls experienced a romance scam? What kind of pictures do they use? I think I have met one, but I can’t tell for sure yet.”

“I’ve experienced an online romance scam, but I haven’t met anyone who scams with a celebrity’s picture.”

“Louis Koo is single anyway, who knows if he’s looking for a partner?”

Another netizen suggested the user to play along to “test” her acting skill.

“Play along, then post on social media to expose him and make it as big as you can. Let the real Louis Koo, the Ministry of Communication, and the police know that there is a catfish.”

To those who are trying their luck on dating apps, how has it been so far? Have you ever fallen victim to any online romance scam?
