A Malaysian entrepreneur has created an ingenious tool that anyone can use to “infinitely waste” scammers’ time via the popular messaging app WhatsApp.

Cheekily called “Scammers On Hold AI”, or SOHAI for short, the WhatsApp AI chatbot is the brainchild of Dylan Tan, the founder and CEO of Singapore-based Replyr.ai, as a way to fight back against scammers.

Sharing his creation on the Entrepreneurs and Startups in Malaysia Facebook group, Tan elaborated that users only need to give scammers the SOHAI’s phone number here.

The AI chatbot would then infinitely waste the scammers’ time by giving excuses, digressing and acting blur.

Moreover, if the scammer doesn’t reply, SOHAI will follow up with the scammer to further annoy them.

The AI chatbot will then save each chat into a leaderboard on Google Sheets with time wasted, summary of the chat and the tactics used to waste their time.

Tan attached several screenshots showing SOHAI in action against three scammers and the Google Sheets summarising each conversation.

The WhatsApp conversations were in English, Malay and Mandarin, which shows that the chatbot is at least trilingual.

At the end of the post, Tan asserted,

“Every minute of scammer time wasted is one less minute of them scamming someone else. Enjoy!”
