If there’s one thing Malaysians are known for, it’s looking out for each other wherever we go. It’s in our nature to lend a helping hand when someone is in need. And if there’s one thing we don’t tolerate, it’s women getting harassed.
In a recent viral video making the rounds online, @didingzz_ shared on TikTok an incident he witnessed firsthand during a bus ride to Penang.
A foreigner was on a video call with his friends
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Aidiel explained that he is a dental surgery assistant trainer from the Training Institute of the Ministry of Health Malaysia.
At the time of the incident, he was on a bus from Johor to Penang when he noticed a foreigner talking to his friends on a video call during the journey.
The foreigner kept panning his phone to the woman next to him
As Aidiel was minding his own business, he noticed that the foreigner allegedly kept panning the camera towards a woman sleeping in the seat next to him, and showing her off to his friends.
He went on to describe how the man, during his video call, even gave a thumbs up to his friends as he panned the camera towards the sleeping woman.
“I was playing with my phone when I realised the foreign man kept looking at the woman next to him from head to toe. I think he was trying to make sure she was asleep before showing her off to his friends on the video call.”
She thanked him for confronting the foreigner
The 23-year-old decided to record the incident and later confronted the foreigner to warn him about his inappropriate behaviour.
“I recorded the video as evidence of his actions so that when I confronted him, he couldn’t deny it,” he explained.
After confronting the foreigner, the woman approached Aidiel to confirm if he had indeed shown her off to his friends while she was asleep.
Aidiel then revealed how the woman became teary-eyed when she asked him, since she herself was unsure how to handle the situation. Grateful for his intervention, she thanked Aidiel for confronting the foreigner on her behalf.
“My advise is, if you witness something like this happening in front of you, don’t hesitate to speak up.”
