The 15th General Election (GE15) is just around the corner and while the campaigning period only starts after nomination day on 5 November 2022, it looks like most Malaysians are already pumped up to go out and vote again four years after GE14. Given that GE15 is trending now, a well-known local clothing company has decided to take advantage of the buzz by creating headscarves or tudung with the logos of political parties.

In fact, the decision to do so has been an incredible success as the tudung line has become an instant hit as the company managed to sell 11,000 pieces of the headscarves in just under 20 minutes! As reported by Bernama, the clothing company, Kekaboo released the tudung line called “Kekaboo Malaysia Memilih PRU15” was uploaded on the brand’s website last Wednesday (19 October 2022) and was sold out almost instantly.

According to the company’s website, the tudung line features 13 Malaysian political party logos with creative and pun-ny names for each. For example, the tudung with the MUDA logo on it is called “Jiwa Muda” while the ones with the PKR flag is called “Arus Perjuangan”. Among the 13 party logos selected as motifs for the headscarves include UMNO, Barisan Nasional, PKR, PAS, Bersatu, Perikatan Nasional, MUDA, Amanah and more.

The company’s co-founder, 31-year-old Nur Hazwani Abdul Zainal said that this was the first time the brand came up with such designs since its inception in 2014. She further said that the overwhelming response towards the product was really unexpected and accordingly, the company will aim to produce more than 50,000 headscarves under the tudung line until GE15.

As for the idea to create the headscarves with political party designs, Nur Hazwani said that it was to meet the demand of customers from various political parties and offer products according to seasons and current trends. She elaborated,

“Initially, we uploaded a video to showcase seven samples of the tudungs on TikTok…after three hours, I had the intention of deleting the video but saw the extraordinary amount of feedback in the comments section, and we even received 10,000 likes for the posting,”

Nur Hazwani, who is from Temerloh, Pahang, said that due to popular demand, Kekaboo came up with another unique design from the original 12 motifs by combining all the party logos. She said the headscarves made from voile cotton are offered in two sizes, namely 45 inches and 50 inches, priced at RM28 and RM38, respectively, and are available on the brand’s website and through agents and stockists nationwide.

So, what do you guys think of the headscarves? Would you purchase one for GE15? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
