Malaysian public figure and Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) council member Khairul Hafidz recently took to social media account to call out Terengganu Menteri Besar (MB) Dato’ Seri Ir Ahmad Samsuri for attending the closing ceremony of the RXZ Members 6.0 gathering event held at the Terengganu Motorsports Circuit in Gong Badak, Kuala Nerus.

This is because, the event, attended by over 40,000 motorcycle enthusiasts, was spotted being sponsored by Elfbar, a vape brand.

Terengganu MB lauded the RXZ Members 6.0 programme as a success

Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Ahmad Samusri lauded the motorcycle gathering programme’s success and hoped that the ‘riders’ gang could join in welfare programmes with the community and showcase more positive values so that they can tear away the negative perception that people have about them.

He also advised the participants to ride home safely, cooperate with the authorities by adhering to the law and not forget to perform the prayers.

Khairul Hafidz calls out the programme for being sponsored by a vape company

Replying to the Terengganu MB’s post, Khairul Hafidz respectfully asked Ahmad Samsuri whether the latter realised that the event was sponsored by a vape company.

Furthermore, he asked whether the Terengganu MB knew that promoting and advertising vape is not allowed under Sections 7 and 9 of the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024 (Act 852).

Khairul Hafidz also pointed out that Ahmad Samsuri was spotted wearing the event shirt which included a logo of the vape company. He thus questioned whether the Terengganu MB was indirectly promoting vaping.

He asserted,

“YB’s action will further encourage vape companies and they will use YB’s attendance as material to promote their vape products.

“This is a serious issue. I hope for YB and your team’s seriousness to be more aware of the issue.”

As of the time of writing, the Terengganu MB has yet to issue a statement on the matter.
