Recently, many job scam cases are happening in the country Cambodia, and many people from Taiwan, China, the Philippines and Malaysia were tricked to travel there for the “high salary” it offers.

The scammers have infiltrated into job-seeking apps to scam job seekers by offering high-salary jobs for just a short period of time. Besides, they have also started to lay hands on performers, photographers, make-up artists and stylists, as what Facebook user Wei Weii shared in his post.

According to Wei, her boyfriend who is a dancer received a message saying that a company in Cambodia would like to invite dancers and singers for an annual dinner. The remuneration is 10,000 US dollars, and both accommodation and air tickets will be born by the company.

What was weird is that,
1) The number who contacted him was a Malaysian number, not an agent. The person of the number said he was from the company.

2) They are just asking for “ordinary singers”
If you are already looking for international performers, why wouldn’t you look for famous singers like Namewee, and doesn’t the country have its own local singers?

3) Their company had no further details than the ones found on Google

4) There are no dancers or singers in Cambodia? What songs do you want the singers to sing for your people? In Chinese?” Wei stated.

She said other than her boyfriend, other dance regiments also received similar invites. “And they are very urgent, they only give you two weeks to prepare, contact you on the 30th, and the 13th is the actual day, maybe they don’t want to give you so much time to think about it,” she shared.

Wei also added that even photographers and make-up artists from Malaysia have been receiving invites, asking them to travel to Cambodia for workshops or annual dinners. She also described this as a very powerful scam as the scammers would “praise your work and offer you a high salary in order to trap you”.

As reported by Oriental Daily, similar scams also happen in Myanmar, and two teenagers who were released told the press that they were forced to scam people into downloading an app and persuade them to top up money into the app.

According to news reports, people who are scammed will be forced to do scam jobs and be involved in sex industry in the country. Some will even die due to their organs being sold, or being tortured for not obeying the scammers. Please be mindful and spread the awareness to your family and friends around you.
