What began as the discovery of a body on a stone bench at a basketball court in a residential area in Bandar Mahkota Cheras has become the focus of a murder investigation after police determined he had suffered a fatal stab wound.

In an official statement by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), initial examinations revealed that the man had sustained a stab wound to the abdomen, with severe bleeding identified as the cause of death. The case is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Suspects may face the death sentence or up to 40 years in jail

Kajang District Police Chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said the offence carries severe penalties upon conviction, including the death penalty or imprisonment for a term of not less than 30 years and not exceeding 40 years. Where the death penalty is not imposed, offenders are also liable to receive no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane.

With many questions still unanswered, police have launched a comprehensive investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Investigators are working to confirm the identity of the deceased, trace and interview potential witnesses, and identify individuals believed to have information or links to the fatal attack.

Authorities are also gathering evidence from the scene and following every available lead to reconstruct the events that culminated in the victim’s death. Earlier, CCTV footage caught 3 men carrying the body and leaving it on the stone bench before casually chatting and leaving the scene.

The victim was found lying on a stone bench next to the basketball court on Monday morning (20 July), where emergency responders and police were alerted to the discovery.

Police have appealed to members of the public who may have witnessed anything unusual in the area, or who possess information that could assist the investigation, to come forward.  Those with relevant information are urged to contact the investigating officer, ASP Ong Eng Yew, at 012-696 6849, or report to the nearest police station.
