This is seriously scary, folks! Most of us frequently bow our heads down to stare at our mobile phones or even computers when we are working for long hours and that isn’t good for our bodies. We are constantly bending our heads to look at our screens! A man in Chengdu, China was recently admitted to hospital as he was paralysed due to some neck problems.

Based on reports by Sohu, the 40-year-old man identified only by his surname, Wang had the habit of lying down on his bed after a long day at work to play with his phone. He would do this for about two to three hours every day until one day, disaster struck.

He suddenly discovered that he couldn’t feel his body from the chest downwards and it was so serious that he couldn’t control his bowels. OMG, so scary! Luckily, Wang was undergoing some tests at the hospital at that time and the doctors could quickly performed emergency treatment on him.

After some emergency surgery, the doctors discovered that he was suffering from cervical spondylosis, which is defined as “wear and tear affecting the spinal disks in your neck”. This can result in “a narrowing of the space needed by the spinal cord and the nerve roots that pass through the spine to the rest of your body”.

Although this condition is rather common in elderly people, for Wang, it was accelerated due to his job, which requires him to frequently bow his head and bend his neck. It didn’t help that he had the habit of bending his head to stare at his phone for a few hours after work either! How many of us do the same too?

Apparently, the doctors said that Wang had been experiencing pain and discomfort in his neck for a while, which caused him to experience some difficulty in walking and standing. He had delayed his check-up until a few days ago when he was undergoing tests and suddenly experienced paralysis.

An emergency surgery was performed on Wang and he is currently recovering from his sudden paralysis but the doctors said that they were unsure whether his body will be able to fully recover from the traumatising experience.
