It seems that getting on escalators in Malaysia nowadays are like playing a game of Russian Roulette.

In a recent incident, this particular woman suffered several fractured toes after her sandal and foot got stuck in a travellator. According to The Star, the incident took place in one of Subang Jaya’s many shopping malls.

The accident happened at the Empire Shopping Gallery and the spokesperson told the press that the person was a 38-year-old lady. She got distracted while on the travellator which resulted inĀ thisĀ scary accident.

“The shopper has received hospital treatment for a bone fracture.”

The mall even released a statement regarding this incident on their Facebook page.

They wrote,

“Yesterday evening (March 8) at approximately 4:00PM, there was an incident in the mall that involved a female shopper who was injured at the travellator between the LG/B1 floor.

“The shopper was given medical attention immediately, and has been receiving treatment at a nearby hospital. The Management for Empire Shopping Gallery sincerely wishes her a smooth and speedy recovery.

“We reassure our shoppers and patrons that travellators and escalators in the mall follow a strict schedule for maintenance in compliance with the Department of Occupational Safety & Health, and that our customers’ safety always remains an utmost priority.

“Moving forward, we will be making additional announcements over the PA system in the mall to remind all patrons to be careful and always be mindful of their surroundings while shopping. Your kind concern and support is much appreciated.”

The Fire and Rescue Department clarified that the victim was then sent to Sunway Medical Centre for further treatment.

The spate of recent escalator accidents happening in Malaysia is certainly scary! Next time, do remember to pay attention when you are on an escalator and abide by the rules. It is for your own safety after all.

Perhaps we should all use the stairs instead?
