Malaysian Ad Showing Woman in Hijab Gets Ridiculed, But Here’s the Truth

Malaysia seems to be making many headlines recently but not necessarily for good causes.

Previously we had politicians who encouraged rapists to marry their victims, then there was the case of the young girl with her “seductive” dress.

And recently, a video clip posted last month showing a woman wearing a hijab while taking a shower and applying shampoo on her hijab has garnered much attention online, especially after a screenshot of the video was posted to 9gag.

The post, entitled “Shampoo ad in Malaysia” has earned much ridicule and derision from netizens as they view it as an example of how extreme and backward Malaysian society is.

Actually, the video has been taken out of context, as the video creator, Mr The All Shared actually created the video for a client to promote their headscarves.

Known for their funny and tongue-in-cheek content, the video is actually a parody of the advertisements that were the norm in the 1990s.

In the original video, the talents in the video are reenacting out a cliche love scene that were popular in the past.

In fact, the description they wrote for the video clearly clarifies that fact.

“In the past, young Malaysians had old-fashioned ways to meet their crushes. They would bump into each other at the library, then someone would drop their books and notes. After that when they were helping to pick up the fallen items, they would exchange shy glances. Super dramatic! But the youth nowadays have it easy as they can just use social media to approach their crushes.”

But netizens did not know that and commented on the 9gag post which paints Malaysia in yet another unfavourable light.

But that proves that people shouldn’t be jumping in and leave stupid remarks themselves before knowing the real truth.

Many Malaysians came to the defense of our motherland:
