A Malaysian restaurant owner is sharing how an influencer had allegedly called her out for disallowing them from shooting a TikTok live stream in her eatery.

Taking to her Threads account, 62-year-old @omeyaacob_ explained how the influencer allegedly told her she was disrupting their livelihood by telling the influencer not to livestream at her restaurant, even though the livestream was disturbing other customers.

She wrote, “I disallowed someone from doing a TikTok live stream in my restaurant, and was accused of disrupting their livelihood. Did they not think that I need to protect my livelihood, too?”

“My restaurant is small, there are only around 20 tables. I am an old-school F&B owner, I just want a calm environment that’s not noisy. There’s no need to make my restaurant go viral, as I prefer my customers to come in a calm manner. Am I at fault? I am a Mak Cik who is over 60 years old. My restaurant is small and chic, comfortable and calm.”

In the comment section, she added that the influencer had already started the live stream when she approached them to tell them to stop.

“In the beginning introduction, the influencer said they were at my restaurant before moving on to other things. I wouldn’t mind it if the influencer was softer, but the influencer was too noisy and laughing out loud, I couldn’t take it. My regular customers felt uncomfortable. Maybe I’ve become old, but table manners are important to me,” she added.

The people have spoken

Many defended her, pointing out that many elderly business owners just want to run their businesses in peace without the need for their eateries to go viral online.

“How can they just assume that all the restaurants they enter are the same (to allow them to livestream)? I’m the same, I prefer eateries that are calm despite having many customers. InsyaAllah, sister, may your business continue to progress. I live just nearby. InsyaAllah, one day I will drop by to eat at your restaurant.”
