A 60-year-old woman from Mukim Bunut Susu, Pasir Mas, Kelantan, who ran away from her village before the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) was implemented is believed to have spread Covid-19 to seven other individuals.

According to Harian Metro, the elderly woman went to a family member’s house in Pulau Beluru, Tumpat to celebrate Hari Raya.

Director of Kelantan State Health Department (JKNK) Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin said the woman tested positive for Covid-19 on the second day of Hari Raya.

“As soon as we found that the senior citizen was not in the village while her name was on the list, we got information that the woman fled to her brother’s house in Tumpat,” he said at a press conference while inspecting Kampung Pauh Lima, which was placed under EMCO from 19 May to 1 June.

“We then instructed the Tumpat District Health Office (PKD) to track down the senior citizen before taking her for swab testing.”

Unfortunately, the woman’s actions had caused seven other individuals in Tumpat, who were her family members, to be infected with Covid-19 as well.

Dr Zaini said that the woman left the village because she wanted to celebrate Hari Raya and found out that the village was about to be put under EMCO.

He added that his team is still tracking other close contacts of the senior citizen so that they can get tested for Covid-19.
