The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will lodge a police report following the reckless actions of a group of motorcyclists who threw firecrackers at its officers while they were conducting a Chinese New Year Operation patrol in the area.

Selangor JPJ Director, Azrin Borhan, said the department views the act seriously as it endangers enforcement personnel as well as other road users.

“We will not compromise with any party that obstructs enforcement duties or acts aggressively towards officers carrying out their responsibilities.”

“I have instructed the officers involved to lodge a police report regarding the incident,” he said when contacted by Sinar Harian on Sunday (22 February).

Azrin said JPJ will continue to carry out focused operations to ensure compliance with road laws, particularly offences involving riding without a licence, lack of insurance, and failure to wear helmets.

He also urged the public, especially motorcyclists, to respect enforcement officers and obey road safety regulations to avoid unnecessary risks and legal action.

Occured while officers were conducting a patrol

Earlier, a video recording of the incident went viral on social media.

It is understood that the incident occurred at about 10 PM on Saturday (21 February) when a team of JPJ enforcement officers were conducting a Chinese New Year Operation patrol along the Kuala Lumpur–Kuala Selangor Expressway (LATAR) and the Tasik Puteri area before stopping a motorcycle on Jalan Tasik Puteri.

The stop was made after discovering that the rider and pillion were not wearing helmets.

Further inspection found several offences, including riding without a valid licence, an expired road tax, and absence of insurance coverage.

Summons notices were issued to both individuals.

However, while officers were issuing the notices, a group of motorcyclists believed to be nearby began throwing firecrackers multiple times from a hill.
