A member of the public has urged that a recreational sports club in Selangor be investigated after members were seen bringing their dogs onto the premises.

An anonymous user shared several photos on a Facebook page showing the dogs at the pickleball sports club, including images of a dog sitting on the court seats.

Selangor sports club member voiced concerns after seeing other members let their dog sit on the court seats

The user also raised concerns about the club’s policy on outside drinks, saying they were told bringing in beverages from outside wasn’t allowed.

“Even funnier, everyone else had outside drinks like mineral water, bottled drinks, and energy drinks. Or is it only mart-bought drinks that aren’t allowed?

“The funny thing is, your own sign says ‘Kindly refrain.’ Someone please teach your staff English. There’s a difference between NOT ALLOWED and KINDLY REFRAIN,” the user wrote.

They also noted that Muslim members might feel uncomfortable buying drinks from the club, as the on-site restaurant reportedly serves alcohol.

“They ban outside drinks but allow dogs on the seats at the pickleball courts. Priorities, right? I bought drinks from the mart just 10 steps away, and the guard said no outside drinks. I said fine, I won’t drink them here. They weren’t even opened, but I still wasn’t allowed to bring them in. So what? Should I throw them away just to get back to my things?

“Your food and beverage outlet sells alcohol, which may make Muslim customers uncomfortable. Are Muslims really expected to buy from a non-halal place just to play? I was there with Muslim friends, how does that make sense?”

The user has called on the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) to look into this sports club and the issues raised.

“They don’t let people bring their own drinks and force them to buy from the club’s restaurant, which sells alcohol. On top of that, they allow dogs to sit on the seats at the facility, which is also used by Muslims.

“Disappointing. Insensitive. Embarrassing.”

We have reached out to the sports club for comment, but have yet to receive a response.
