Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested and named five individuals as suspects in a sting operation involving the alleged misuse of emergency disaster relief funds at the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).
According to a statement made by the commission on Facebook, the arrests follow an investigation into the management of the On-Call Fund (Dana Siap Pakai/DSP), which is allocated by the Indonesian government specifically for swift response during national emergencies and natural disasters.

Five suspects named in two corruption clusters
According to details released by the KPK on 16 October, 2026, the five suspects arrested during the operation include official advisers, commitment-making officers, and private sector representatives:
-
BMS: Expert Staff to the Head of BNPB (and brother of the Head of BNPB for the 2021–2026 period).
-
RIC: Expert Staff to the Head of BNPB (2021–2026 period).
-
GPS: Commitment Making Officer (PPK) at the Sub-Directorate for Relief Management and Emergency Funds, BNPB.
-
SNG: Private individual.
-
GER: Director of PT TLS (Private Sector).
Investigators uncovered two main clusters of alleged corruption surrounding direct procurement contracts for disaster management, including emergency responses to forest and land fires in Kalimantan and Papua, major earthquakes in East Nusa Tenggara, and flood relief efforts across Aceh and Sumatra.
The first cluster involves a conflict of interest, where procurement contracts worth Rp 148 billion (approx. RM40.7 million) between 2024 and 2026 were directed via direct appointment to vendors affiliated with BMS. Funds totaling Rp 30.98 billion (approx. RM8.5 million) were allegedly channeled to buy 150.4 million shares for personal gain.
The second cluster involves bribery, where official advisers and procurement officers allegedly demanded kickbacks from private vendors in exchange for securing direct appointment contracts.

Cash, gold, and crypto seized by authorities
Following public reports and subsequent law enforcement action, the KPK seized evidence worth an estimated Rp 5.47 billion (approx. RM1.5 million). Seized assets include:
-
Foreign currency amounting to USD 7,500 (approximately RM30,600) and SGD 9,000 (approximately RM28,700).
-
Cash totaling Rp 3.35 billion (approximately RM757,000).
-
56 gold bars weighing 133 grams (valued at Rp 315.8 million/approximately RM71,400).
-
Gold savings totaling 192 grams (valued at Rp 452 million/ approximately RM102,200).
-
Crypto assets valued at Rp 1.10 billion (approximately RM248,900).
Calling the corruption of disaster relief funds deeply ironic, the agency emphasised that emergency aid intended to alleviate public suffering during national crises must never be exploited for personal enrichment. All five suspects are currently in custody as anti-graft authorities continue their investigation.
