As you can imagine, with the outbreak of Covid-19 hot on the heels of Malaysia at large, our local medical staff have already been scrambling to get to work to ensure the safety of all Malaysians across the country. But what we probably don’t know is what is actually going on behind the scenes, and what it takes to do even something as seemingly simple as transferring a patient from one hospital to another.

In a Facebook post that has recently gone viral, netizen Nasrul Naeem, who works as a medical assistant, shows us a rare glimpse of what it is like for Malaysian medical staff who are working at the very frontlines of this medical crisis.

In his post, he documents the transfer of a Covid-19 patient which has been intubated (sealed off in a protective plastic tube), from Hospital Kuala Lumpur to Hospital Sungai Buloh, the latter of which has been designated as the core treatment facility for the Covid-19 outbreak.

“We have been working for 48 hours non-stop.” he says, adding that “It isn’t easy to transport cases like these, especially when you need full protective transportation.”

In a series of photos included in the post, we see medical authorities dressed in full personal protective equipment (PPE) as they begin the transfer of the Covid-19 infected patient from one facility to another.

Working in unison, they move the afflicted patient out towards a waiting ambulance, with the patient properly sealed within a ventilated tube to prevent further exposure of the virus to other people.

It is clear that no expense was spared to ensure the safety of the patient, as well as those who are in the hospital, as the medical team work hand-in-hand to ensure that the entire process goes off smoothly.

Medical equipment have also been put on standby to ensure that they will be ready for use, should more cases surface within Kuala Lumpur.

During this trying period, we should be thankful that our Malaysian medical staff are working hard to keep us all safe while the Covid-19 virus outbreak continues. To our dedicated medical authorities, we salute you for your dedication and for your diligent service.
