Sexual harassment on public transportation has sadly become a common thing, so much so that we often overlook it. However, the trauma from these experiences can persist long after the incident.

In a recent viral post by user @Mersonze_, he recounts his experience of encountering a random old man on the train who harassed him on his way home from work.

In the post, Amsyah revealed how he boarded the train from Masjid Jamek heading towards Sentul. However, on his way to Titiwangsa, he became aware that something didn’t feel right.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, he shared how he was simply minding his own business, but couldn’t shake the feeling that he was being watched. He soon realised that an old man sitting across from him was simply staring at him.

He gestured to me, trying to get me to leave the train with him

Amsyah mentioned that before the old man reached his station, he gestured for Amsyah to get off with him. But Amsyah just ignored it and shrugged it off.

In the video, the old man even went as far as touching himself inappropriately in order to get Amsyah’s attention, and that was when Amsyah realised what he was trying to do.

“Before he got off the train, he hinted to me, trying to tell me to leave the train with him. But I just ignored him. He kept touching himself to get my attention.”

Amsyah shared that this was his first experience with something so traumatic. He also mentioned that he’s originally from Sabah but currently living in KL for work.

He expressed his hope that sharing his story could raise awareness for others who use public transportation to get around. He also advised,

“If you’re a regular public transport user, especially women, make sure to sit in a crowded area. You never know who might be watching or following you. Stay cautious and stay safe.”

We hope Amsyah stays strong and can overcome the trauma from this horrifying incident. A reminder to all those who use public transport to stay safe and always be aware of your surroundings.
