If you have a child, you would know very well the unconditional love that a parent has towards their offspring and how heartbroken they would feel when something happens to one of their children. Just recently, a grieving father, Desmond Neo shared his tragic experience of losing his beloved baby daughter at a hospital in Malaysia.

His 11-month-old daughter, Joel Neo had high fever with temperatures soaring up to 39°Celsius on April 24, so he decided to send her to a hospital in Batu Pahat for treatment. The hospital confirmed that it was an ordinary fever and administered treatment. But his nightmare started then, when they gave his daughter medicine and four hours later, he was shocked to find that his daughter’s lips turned purple while her limbs started to turn black.

He called for the doctor, who said that this was normal and is a symptom of the fever. Desmond was shocked at the doctor’s explanation but decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. The doctor administered medicine to his daughter again at 5.30pm, just 7 hours after the first dose and said it was a stronger dosage.

Desmond says, “After that my daughter had a very deep sleep, too deep for my liking, as she normally does not like to sleep so much. I asked the doctor and he said it was because of the medicine’s effect. I wanted to transfer her to another hospital but it was getting late and they could only do it tomorrow morning.”

At 1am on April 25, his daughter’s fever suddenly spiked to 40°Celsius and he called the nurse for help. The nurse gave his daughter more medicine and apparently refused to call the doctor even though he pleaded for her to do so. She even said that calling him over would require an extra RM150 charge.

Things took a turn for the worse, when Joel’s temperature reached 41.4°Celsius and he discovered that her stools were very watery. The nurse called a doctor from the emergency ward who advised his family to take some cold water to sponge his daughter’s body in an effort to bring down the temperature. Err, shouldn’t that be the nurses’ job?

The doctor also said, “Turn the air-conditioner on full blast and expose your daughter’s body to the cold air. I guarantee that her fever will subside.” Desmond kept asking the nurse to call the doctor many times but still, she refused to do so. At around 6am, Desmond was appalled when poor little Joel started vomiting dark-coloured liquid followed by some reddish liquid he believes to be blood.

That’s when the doctor made an appearance and the daughter was sent to an ICU ward. The doctor then told an enraged Desmond, “I’m sorry, Mr Neo, our hospital does not have enough manpower or equipment to treat your daughter. Do you mind transferring to another hospital?”

Unfortunately, there is no happy ending to this sad story because 11 days after that, his baby daughter passed away in a government hospital. RIP little one. In another post, Desmond also shared the replies the hospital gave him, after he demanded for an explanation from them.

But he was sorely disappointed as they had apparently pushed all the blame and responsibility away. He says,“I shared this post to warn other parents not to bring their children here if they do not want to experience the same tragic event I had.”

We are sorry for the loss of your cute little girl, Mr Neo, and would like to extend our sincerest condolences. May her angelic soul rest in peace.
