Malaysia’s diplomatic efforts have drawn international praise after successfully facilitating peace talks between Thailand and Cambodia, who were previously locked in a border dispute.

Recently, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim revealed that US President Donald Trump personally commended him for Malaysia’s role in resolving the conflict.

“He said, ‘Prime Minister Anwar, fantastic work.’ He used the word ‘fantastic’ three times.”

Anwar said the praise followed Malaysia’s success in bringing Thailand and Cambodia to an agreement to resolve their conflict, ultimately achieving a ceasefire between the two nations.

“The first attempt wasn’t very successful. Trump called, China made a bit of progress. Then Malaysia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Armed Forces Chief, and everyone worked together to get the Prime Ministers of Thailand and Cambodia to come,” he shared.

Within two and a half hours, Alhamdulillah, it was achieved. Malaysia’s name is now respected globally—from Washington to London, ASEAN is talking about Malaysia’s success. Malaysia’s achievement united ASEAN in the pursuit of peace and progress for all,” he said.

Meanwhile, he added that a meeting between Thailand and Cambodia will be held in Kuala Lumpur this coming Monday, attended by the Foreign Ministers of both countries to finalise the details.

“We’re still in communication almost daily. Just last night, I was still in touch with the Prime Minister, including from Cambodia. He said, ‘Thank you very much, Prime Minister. No more fighting,’ but he asked for our continued help.”

“Cambodia and Thailand are coming to Kuala Lumpur for the meeting, which will be coordinated by Malaysia. This is our progress. If the country were in chaos, with constant disputes, who would want to come?”

I thank him (Trump), China, and ASEAN, but let’s not forget our own machinery: the military, the administration, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who worked hard to make this happen. I’m proud as a Malaysian because Malaysia is trusted,” he said.
