Emirates Offers Free Funerals For Passengers Infected With Covid-19 During The Journey

The travel industry is definitely one of the worst hit industries in this Covid-19 pandemic and we’re not sure whether this loyalty perk could help ease that.

Emirates Airlines, the Middle-Eastern airline company is getting into the insurance industry with a weird promo amidst this Covid-19 pandemic:

Free funeral if you’re infected with the Coronavirus when you fly Emirates!

As reported by Business Today, the airlines company is trying to boost travel demand during this Covid-19 pandemic and this is one of the measures that it came up with. The Dubai-based company said that it will be covering up to RM7390 worth of funeral expenses should a passenger succumb to the virus and die. Pretty bleak thing to offer, don’t you think?

Of course, that is not the only thing Coronavirus-related they’re offering, as its travel insurance would also be covering:

  • RM737,000 worth of medical expenses if you’re diagnosed with Covid-19 during your journey.
  • RM500 per day in quarantine costs, including hotel rooms for up to 2 weeks.

The coverage would be valid for a period of one month or 31 days to be exact. Furthermore, it would be covering you from the moment you take your first flight and even when you travel to another city.

Emirates Group CEO Sheikh Ahmad bin Saeed Al Maktoum said,

“It is an investment on our part, but we are putting our customers first, and we believe they will welcome this initiative.”

However, do note that testing costs for Covid-19 are not covered and all expenses must be approved by Emirates first.

Well, hope it works out for Emirates as well as for their customers. We’re just not sure that having your funeral covered is something that would a traveller’s mind at ease during this pandemic.
