A Malaysian singer and YouTuber recently went viral after sharing a video of him and his friends behaving playfully while singing the national anthem at an event.

The clip sparked backlash, with many Malaysians calling it inappropriate and disrespectful to Negaraku, prompting him to issue a public apology and admit his actions were wrong.

They did it first and only apologised afterwards

UMNO Youth Chief Dr Akmal Saleh has called for tougher action against the individuals involved, labelling them “traitors” and “fools.”

In a social media post, Akmal stressed that the matter has nothing to do with race or political affiliation, but rather concerns every Malaysian’s duty to respect the nation.

“Before this, the Malaysian flag was flown upside down. Now, the national anthem Negaraku is being mocked! They did it first, then only apologised afterwards!” he wrote.

“We’re calling for harsh punishment for traitors like this!”

Akmal also emphasised the importance of respecting the country and not allowing it to be demeaned.

“That’s why we’re calling for harsh punishment for traitors like this! And to those foolish enough to defend such actions, go ahead, defend this one too! Let’s see what excuse you’ll come up with. Maybe you’ll say this person has no brain, just like you!”

He has since urged that those involved be caught and punished, regardless of their race or any political party backing them.
