UMNO Youth Chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has called out participants of the recent “Gempur Rasuah 2.0” rally in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, for their provocative action of burning a banner with a caricature of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the end of the rally’s second day.

Taking to his official Facebook page, Dr Akmal branded the student activists as cowardly and stupid.

In the post, the UMNO Youth Chief shared a photo of the caricature of Anwar being burned alongside an old picture of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his wife being ‘mooned’ by a protester.

Dr Akmal then compared both photos, stressing that despite belonging to different parties, we must be enraged when today’s Malaysian leaders are treated in an insulting manner, just like how enraged we were when a photo of our previous national leaders was subjected to a similar treatment.

He then called out the student activists who burned the caricature of Anwar, saying that if someone is a fighter, they must be brave, not stupid and lacking manners.

Dr Akmal, who is also the assemblyperson for Merlimau, Melaka, asserted,

“Being brave doesn’t mean you must lose your manners as a human being. To the student who thinks they’re brave for burning a caricature of PMX, you’re actually a coward and an imbecile.”

The UMNO Youth Chief then invited the student activists to meet with him personally if they were not satisfied with his statement.

Previously, on Sunday (22 June), a Malaysian student activist group, Suara Mahasiswa UMS, burned a banner featuring a caricature of Anwar with a message reading, “MADANI protector of Sabah corruption”.

The act was made during the Gempur Rasuah Sabah 2.0 rally, which is a play on the GRS acronym of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, the coalition of Sabah-based political parties currently helming the Sabah State Government.

The rally was aimed at the corruption scandal involving several assemblypersons in Sabah, as well as the appointment of Tun Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman as the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah.
