Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reaffirmed that every Malaysian, regardless of race, belongs to one national family, saying he was willing to sacrifice political support to uphold this belief.

In his speech, Anwar said the Chinese, Indians, Malays and Orang Asli were all members of his family, stressing that his position was based on principle rather than political calculation.

“So what if I lose some votes?”

He criticised those who tell Malaysian Chinese to “go back” to the countries their ancestors came from, noting that many were born and raised in Malaysia and regard it as their only home. He urged the audience to reflect on how hurtful such remarks would be to those who hear them.

“If there are any Chinese, Indians, Malays, or the Indigenous people here, I want to tell you, you can say whatever you like, but they are part of my family!”

“So what if I lose some votes? You mean, I have to get Chinese votes by condemning the Malays, or get Malay votes by condeming the Chinese? No,” Anwar told the audience at the Pakatan Harapan’s Grand Finale Kekal Harapan rally in Sikamat, Negeri Sembilan, on Wednesday night (29 July).

Anwar also said he would equally reject anyone who insulted Malays or told them to “return to Sumatra”, describing such statements against any community as disrespectful.

Additionally, PMX also shared that he makes it a point to visit local food stalls every Friday before performing Friday prayers. During these visits, he pays close attention to the prices charged, the rental rates, and the overall condition of the premises, saying that this is part of his duty as Prime Minister.

“I will ask the vendors about the prices, the rental costs, and whether the roof is leaking. Why? Because I happen to be the Prime Minister, and I need to understand the challenges that the vendors are facing,” he said.

What do you think of Anwar’s statements?
