This is exactly why we shouldn’t continue driving when we’re feeling sleepy!

On Wednesday (12th June 2019), two young girls died after a car that their mother drove skidded and went out of control before it plunged into a ravine. The tragic accident took place at 8am in Kilometre 56, Jalan Kalabakan-Sapulut near Tawau in Sabah, while the family was on their way to Labuan.

Astro Awani reported that Nur Halisa Sufiyya Resmanshah, 7, and Nur Syaakur Safiyyah Resmanshah, 5, lost their lives on the spot while their parents, as well as the younger sibling, managed to escape the fatal accident with light injuries. The younger sibling is one year and 4 months years old.

According to the police’s investigations, the mother, Nur Asilah Abd Majid, 33, lost control of the Pajero Sport when she dozed off for a bit. As a result of that, the vehicle skidded and plunged in a ravine, causing her two daughters to be thrown out from the backseat of the car. That is so heartbreaking!

At the time of writing, this case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987. We hope that the authorities will speed up the investigation and find a solution to this matter.

On that note, do keep in mind to always take a break if you’re feeling tired whilst driving, especially if you’re driving long distance. That said, don’t forget to always fasten your seatbelts when you’re in a car, even if you’re seated at the back!

To the family who lost their daughters in the accident, we extend our condolences to them.
