“Boss, kenapa tak tunjuk bola?” 5 Problems That M’sian Sports Fans Konfem Relate to!

Being a sports fan in Malaysia is super awesome, kan? In addition to the variety of sports we enjoy, we can also bask in the camaraderie of other fans regardless of our various cultures and creeds! But for today, we’re going to lament the more awkward parts of being Malaysian sports fans.

1. When you can’t watch the match you want to see at your favourite restaurant

Restaurants – especially mamak restaurants – are essential to the Malaysian sports fan experience, betul tak? That being said, restaurants aren’t always reliable as sports-viewing venues. For instance, maybe their large TV or screen projector is out of commission when you get there. Or perhaps the staff would rather show something else other than your sports match. Maybe they don’t even have TVs in the first place! The possibilities are endless but not in a good way lah!?

2. Sharing about sports with others who aren’t as enthusiastic

Getting to explain your fave sport to non-fans can be exciting! That is unless you find out they might not be all about the hype like you are. There could be several reasons why. Maybe they’re overloaded with info about technical terms, player names and the like. It’s also possible that they have prejudices towards certain sports that are a bit hard to dispel. This means that talking to non-fans may require some patience on your part.

Speaking of patience…

3. Getting too emotional when interacting with other sports fans

As mentioned before, one of the most special parts of being a sports fan in Malaysia is the sense of unity we get from meeting other supporters! But sometimes that unity can be replaced by hostility especially if you come across supporters of an opposing sports team online. It’s easy to get emotional about your faves, so it might lead to aggressive rivalries with other teams’ fans.

Our advice? Just curb your enthusiasm and respect each others’ preferences in sports. Ultimately, we’re all Team Malaysia, kan? ?? ?

4. Long stadium/arena lines for the most hyped-up local matches

From good ol’ football matches to all-new e-sports tournaments, there’s never been a shortage of super-hyped live matches in Malaysia! But these matches have their tricky part too: the long queue! If you’ve never been in these long lines outside of the stadium or arena then you’ve definitely heard about these situations online at least. Because there’s hardly anything more fanatical than lining up for hours in the Malaysian heat just for live matches, betul tak?

5. Figuring out the best way to watch sports on the go

The hustle and bustle of daily Malaysian life can really hinder you from keeping up with your fave sports. Moreso with international matches due to all the different time zones you have to keep track of.
