The recent appointment of former Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament (MP) Nurul Izzah Anwar as Senior Economic and Financial Adviser to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who happens to be her father, was shrouded by controversy. However, amidst criticisms from the public, Nurul Izzah received unexpected support from a political adversary, Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, who directly contested against Anwar Ibrahim in Tambun during the 15th General Election (GE15).

According to BERNAMA, Faizal, who is also Bersatu deputy president called on all parties to give chance for Nurul Izzah to prove her capability in the position. Moreover, he asserted that the post did not come with an easy task but believed that the former Permatang Pauh MP’s experience would be an added value for her to solve various problems involving the rakyat.

Faizal

Faizal commented,

“Apart from the appointment (as Senior Economic and Financial Advisor) by the prime minister, Nurul Izzah also has two degrees and has been a member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). With these qualifications and experience, I think we can trust her (Nurul Izzah) to solve problems on the economy, finance and cost of living facing the people now,”

Previously, Faizal also held the position of Special Adviser to the Prime Minister under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government. However, unlike Nurul Izzah, the former Perak Menteri Besar was given Ministerial status and advised on matters involving community networking, community communications and socio-economic development.

Nurul Izzah revealed that she was officially appointed Senior Economic and Financial Adviser to the Prime Minister on 3 January 2023 and that her main objective was to improve the economic condition of the people, as well as tackle issues of poverty, education and technical and vocational training (TVET) in the country. She is also doing the job pro-bono.

So, what do you guys think of the statement by Faizal Azumu? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
