Normally, the biggest enemies of criminals such as thieves, murderers and burglars are law enforcement bodies like the police.

In a turn of events, an alleged professional thief decided to end his career prematurely by calling the police and begging them to save him!

According to Berita Harian, the thief turned to his unlikely hero out of fear after realising that some members of the public have caught him in the act.

Local Police Chief, Asad uz Zaman, said the thief, Yasin Khan, 40, reportedly broke into a grocery store in southern Barisal to steal items from the shelves.

“When he was done and was about to go out, Yasin noticed that the day had turned bright and people were starting to come into the market,” he said.

Consequently, an angry mob had gathered and due to fear of being attacked, Yasin called the police emergency line pleading to be rescued.

“We went to the shop and brought him out with a police escort before the mob could touch him.”

“I have never seen anything like this in my entire career,” he said.

Meanwhile, the shop owner, Jhontu Mia, said Yasin had stuffed a big bag full of the valuables but was unable to escape from the scene.

He was arrested and sent to jail after pleading guilty to breaking in, and was also wanted for his involvement in several other burglaries in the area.

What a peculiar incident!
