According to SCMP, the woman was sitting near the door of the small restaurant in Baoji in Shaanxi province, northern China with her husband. The four-year-old boy had run past her table into the restaurant, which caused her to be hit by the soft plastic door curtain.

The couple was startled by the disturbance and when the little boy ran past her to go out of the restaurant again, the woman deliberately stuck her leg out to trip him. That’s mean! He fell to the ground and the boy’s mother who saw him rushed over to help him up while the couple continued to eat nonchalantly.

However, the boy who was suffering from a heart defect had to be taken to the hospital and doctors diagnosed him with mild concussion after the incident, which happened on April 19. Luckily, the boy is now in stable condition but the pregnant woman received vicious backlash from netizens after the CCTV footage went viral on Chinese social media.

One woman said, “As someone who is soon going to be a mother, this act is really shameful,” while another user commented, “Do some good deeds for the baby in her tummy, please.”

“At first I thought my boy tripped himself, but later he told me that the woman tripped him, which was confirmed by other customers in the shop. I checked the CCTV and was so angry that I called the police,” the little boy’s mother said.

Fearing the backlash, the pregnant woman turned herself in to the police one day after the incident. She apologised and offered to bear the medical fees for the boy. She was detained for 10 days and fined 1,000 yuan (RM619) for assaulting the boy. The victim’s mother said that they did not want to take any other further action as she was seven months pregnant. So kind!
