A Singaporean cat lover recently shared a distressing incident in which he was confronted and filmed by a random man who was angry that he was feeding stray cats in the area.

The Singaporean, Jenken Haines, shared a video of the man’s angry rant at him on the Facebook page Sayang Our Singapore’s Community Cats and added further context to the incident.

According to Haines, the incident took place on 12 December at around 8.10pm at Block 446 Clementi Avenue 3 when he went there to check on the food that was put there for the community cat.

He shared,

“I saw this Chinese man with his wife and young children surrounding the food. I then explained to them that it was meant for the community cat and if they could just leave it alone.”

The man then defensively said that they were not doing anything to it. When Haines came back to the same spot, he saw that the family was leaving but as they were doing so, the man was seen trying to take a photo of him.

When Haines asked why he was trying to snap a photo of him, the man said,

“You take care of your cats, I take care of my children, you go away,”

Haines then continued to ask why he was taking a photo of him, to which the man claimed that cat feeding is illegal in Singapore.

Afterwards, Haines decided to record the conversation on video, to which the man did the same.

In the 24-second video, the two can be heard arguing in Mandarin, with the angry man referring to Haines as a “silly person” for feeding the cat and asserting,

“Put so much food there, you see he still say, talk so much.”

Haines then asked the man why is it illegal to feed cats, to which the man angrily replied,

“It is illegal to feed stray cats, you go to school to learn ok.”

Afterwards, the man threatened to call the police on Haines as he walked away, though this conversation was not recorded in the video.

It is worth noting that there are no such rules or laws in Singapore that prohibit anyone from feeding stray cats.
