A tragic road accident has taken place in front of a school in Parit Sulong, Batu Pahat, Johor, involving a van and a pedestrian, resulting in the death of a young girl.
The incident has since been confirmed by the Batu Pahat District Police Chief, ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat bin Abdullah Sani. Preliminary investigations revealed that the van collided with a Year 2 student yesterday (5 May) in front of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Seri Maimon.

Details of the tragic incident
In a statement, Shahrulanuar explained that investigations by the District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPTD) suggest the incident occurred as the van was exiting the school’s main gate. The van then struck the eight-year-old victim, who was walking in front of the main gate. She sustained severe head and internal injuries and was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
“As a result of the collision, the Year 2 student of SK Seri Maimon suffered severe head and internal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical assistant from the Parit Sulong Health Clinic. The van driver, a 60-year-old local man, was uninjured,” Shahrulanuar added.

Police investigation underway
The driver has since been detained to assist with the ongoing investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
