As a rule, it is generally ill-advised to kiss newborn infants, as they are highly prone to being susceptible to diseases and viruses that otherwise our grown adult bodies are immune to. One such disease is herpes, which is highly common among humans and is, as you guessed it, highly contagious. While our normal human bodies don’t exhibit any symptoms of the virus, we do carry it in our system, and can infect other people with relative ease.

But the ones most prone to the risk of infection are babies, given their generally weaker immune systems. Unfortunately, one mother had to learn that the hard way when her baby wound up being the victim of a kiss, according to The Sun.

Despite imposing a ban on kisses for her baby, the unthinkable happened to six-month-old baby Oarlah. During the course of many visits from families and friends, someone unknowingly broke the no-kissing rule and yes, kissed baby Oarlah. As a result, she wound up being horrifically infected with the herpes virus.

Given her weak immune system, the virus immediately took a hold of her body and ravaged her skin, leaving her with extensive spots and sores all over her skin.

In fact, it got so severe that the infection even began to turn her left eye cloudy!

Fearing that her baby may go blind, her mother Hollie Cruickshanks and her partner Bradley Airlie, rushed her immediately to hospital. Thankfully, the swelling in baby Oarlah’s eye eventually was reduced in 24 hours.

Subsequent tests showed that baby Oarlah’s eyesight had not been affected by the herpes virus.

But given that fact, we really should know better than to expose infants to possible infections, especially in the wake of Covid-19!
