40yo Man in Sarawak Accidentally Shot Dead by His Friend Who Mistook Him for a Wild Boar

A 40-year-old man tragically lost his life after being accidentally shot by his friend during a hunting trip in a forested area of Sarawak on May 25.

According to Kosmo, the incident happened around 5:30 PM while the victim and the 46-year-old suspect were hunting in the Sungai Dor forest area in Melugu.

He was mistaken for a wild boar

Sri Aman District Police Chief Superintendent Dennis Bunyam said the victim sustained severe head injuries after he was mistakenly shot, believed to have been misidentified as a wild boar.

He added that a team from the Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed the victim died at the scene, as reported by Harian Metro.

Further investigation also revealed that the suspect did not possess a valid firearm license for hunting.

The suspect is currently being remanded for 4 days

Dennis added that the police have since seized the shotgun used in the incident.

The suspect is currently under a four-day remand until May 30 to assist with investigations under Section 304A of the Penal Code for causing death without intent, as well as under the Arms Act 1960 for possessing an unlicensed firearm.
