A 25-year-old designer from Penang recently shared an unforgettable experience on TikTok, where he talked about receiving an order from someone he knew but for an anonymous person.
In his video, @kaihungofficial revealed that he was hired to design a bag for one of Malaysia’s most famous figures, using a handmade songket.
It was for someone whose identity wasn’t revealed
Kai Hung went on to explain that while making the bag, he had no idea who it was for since the person who contacted him was just a middleman.
“Normally, I don’t take fully custom orders, but since I knew the person making the request (the middleman), I made an exception,” he said.
He then mentioned that, at first, he thought the bag was for the middleman, but she later revealed it was actually for someone else whose identity was kept a secret.
Malaysia’s cultural diversity
Kai Hung explained the process of designing the bag, mentioning how it needed to represent Malaysia’s cultural diversity.
“I was sent a songket fabric for the exterior, a saree for the lining, and added my own touch as a Chinese designer, complete with my logo on the inside of the bag,” he explained.
Once the bag was finished and sent to the recipient, a few days later, he received a message with a “congrats” and a video revealing the recipient’s true identity.
“This is who it’s for”
Kai Hung then made a huge reveal, showing that the bag he had designed was actually for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and he even included clips of Anwar holding the bag.
Kai Hung expressed his shock, saying he never expected something like this to happen and called it one of the most incredible moments of his career as a bag designer.
